Minutes of the General Purposes Sub Committee Meeting

Held at Hazel Grove Bowling and Tennis Club - Tuesday 18th October 2011

1.     Members in attendance:

  • 3.  Minutes:

    The Minutes of the General Purposes Sub Committee held on Tuesday 20th September 2011 were agreed.

    4.  Matters arising:

    JS ad written to the SMBC Planning Department with a supporting letter for Bramhall High School floodlights application.

    EC had attended Stockport Georgians FC and presented an award for 100 years of football.  

    5.  Website:

    JS reported that 160 clubs were registered on the website and about 30% were affiliated.

    JS was requested to contact all clubs to update their details.

    6.  Sport Stockport Initiatives:

    ID reported that Level 1 and 2 coaching had £12,000 available  plus an additional £2,500

    Level 1 Football coaching courses had been arranged at Aquinas College and Hillcrest

    3 First Aid courses had been arranged for the 15th, 17th and 22nd of November 2011

    An FA Safeguarding workshop was being prepared.

    ID reported that additional funding may be available but it must be spent by the end of January 2012.

    Currently 74 clubs have attained clubmark and 21 are working towards it.

    7.   Stockporet Sports Trust Outcome 6:

    Next meeting to be held at 2.00 pm on 31st October 2011 at Avondale Sports Centre.

    8.    Club Development Applications:

    High Lane Football Club - meet all criteria. Funding required to support the creation of a new  under 7's team including kit, equipment, facility and coaching education.  Total cost £1,300.  £400 awarded subject to payment of affiliation fee.

    Bramhall Lawn Tennis Club - all criteria met.  Funding required for a facilities upgrade of a practice court a talented athelete initiative and equipment for mini tennis.  Total cost > £1,000. £400 awarded subject to payment of affiliation fee.

    AFC Stockport - all criteria met.  Require funding to deliver training sessions for women new to football.  £400 awarded subject to payment of affiliation fee.

    Stockport Lacrosse Club - all criteria met.  Funding required to implement a coach education programme for a number of volunteers within the club. All coaches to be trained to a minimum of level 2.  Total cost £1,100.  £400 awarded. 

    West Heaton Tennis and Bowling Club - all criteria met. Funding required to deliver a tennis leader course to increase the numbers of volunteers within the club.  Total cost £800.  £400 awarded subject to payment of affiliation fee.

    Bredbury St Marks Cricket Club - all criteria met. Funding required to support a coach education programme to increase the number of qualified coaches at the club. Also to purchase some essential equipment to improve junior coaching.  Total cost £1,000.  Awarded £400.

    Hillgate Football Club - all criteria met.  Funding required to support coach education , publicise the club and subsidise introductory sessions for under 6's to encourage new members. Total project cost £2,000.  £400 awarded.

    9. Active Sports Alliance:

    No meeting had been arranged.  BH to email minutes of previous meeting to JS for inclusion on the website.

    10.  Sport Stockport Chair:

    John Hargreaves had attended the meeting having expressed an interest in taking up the position of Chair of Sport Stockport.  BH explained the background to the requirements and duties associated with the position.  JonH gave some personal details regarding his work and volunteering activities particularly with Reddish North End Football Club of which he is currently Chairman.

    The Sub Committee members were asked to consider the matter and make a decision in the near future. 

    11.   Sports Awards Dinner:

    Some discussion took place regarding the outcome of the dinner which included venue, format, catering and administration etc.

    It was agreed that for next year an action plan needs to be developed so that things are not left until the last minute and the work involved is shared around the Group members.

    JS agreed to contact as many people as possible that attended to get their feedback.

    12.  Any Other Business:    

    ID asked whether Sport Stockport would be prepared act as an independent body to allocate free community use of 10 hours per week at the proposed new Woodley Sports Club development.  This wouild need a set of criteria developing to determine who, when and how long a particular group could use the facility.  Agreed in principle.

    13.    Date of Next meeting:

    Next meeting scheduled for Tuesday 15th November 2011 at Hazel Grove Bowling & Tennis Club commencing at 7.30 p.m.

    The meeting closed at 9.43 p.m.
