Minutes of the General Purposes Sub Committee Meeting

Held at Hazel Grove Bowling and Tennis Club - Tuesday 23 August 2011

3.     Chairman’s Remarks:

The Chair welcomed Julie Higham to the committee and introduced her to all the other members.

4.   Minutes

The Minutes of the General Purposes Sub Committee held on Tuesday 21st June 2011 were presented to the meeting and agreed.

6.     Annual Awards Dinner:

JS confirmed that the Mayor and Mayoress had been invited and will attending the function as will Cllr John Smith – Executive Member for Leisure.

The menu was agreed as

  •       Fanned Melon with Mixed Berries and raspberry Coulis
  •       English Chicken Supreme with a Leek & Mustard Cream Sauce
  •       Vegetarian Option
  •       Filo Pastry with Goats Cheese and Spinach
  •       Vanilla Crème Brulee with Shortbread
  •       Coffee and Mints

Preferences would be required to be entered on the booking form. Price per ticket agreed as £27.50.

LM is working on sponsorship.

There had been good publicity for the nominations.

Running order for the evening:

7.00 – 7.30 pm Reception

7.30 pm           Guests to be seated

7.35 pm            Entrance and welcome nominees

7.45 pm            Show Olympic DVD

8.00 pm             Dinner

9.30 pm             Speaker (if available)

10.00 pm           Presentation of Awards (7 categories)

It was agreed that the Stockport Express and Imagine FM logos be incorporated into the programme

Programme to include:

  • Front page with logos
  • Fred Perry previous winners
  • Menu
  • Sports Trust and Sport Stockport synopsis
  • Prizes required for the raffle.

Invitation letters and emails to be sent out – Action JS

Letters to shortlisted nominees to be sent out when selected – Action JS

7.     Website:

Currently 159 clubs registered on the website with 39 affiliated.

JS reported that the email facility incorporated on the site was extremely useful for contacting clubs with a minimum of effort.

8.     Sport Stockport Initiatives:

  • The coaching bursaries will run until March 2012 and ID is trying to get everyone through the programme by February 2012 before the cut off date.
  • Sport Stockport will get an increased amount of £12,000 consisting of £9,000 for level 1 courses and £3,000 for level 2 courses.
  • The targets for this year have already been exceeded 44 participants through levels 1&2 coaching courses and 86 through CPD courses.
  • Approximately £4,000 has been committed to date.
  • Cricket course scheduled for October.
  • Additional football courses planned.
  • Any underspend can be transferred to CPD training.
  • Talented Athlete Fund draft application form and guidance notes to be circulated – Action ID.

9.     Stockport Sports Trust Outcome 6:

Nothing to report.

10. Club Development Fund Applications:

a)    Norbury Cricket Club – all criteria met. Application for balance of cost of coaching fees to send 4 coaches on courses. Accepted subject to club affiliating before grant being awarded.

b)    Cheadle Heath Nomads Football Club – all criteria met. Require funding for equipment and kit for womens football team. Total cost £650. ID to obtain more information.

c)     Stockport Bramhall Hockey Club – all criteria met. Require funding to improve publicity material within wider community. Development of new website and printing of 10,000 leaflets. Total cost >£1,700. Award of £400 agreed subject to a logo and link to Sport Stockport on the new website.

d)    Stockport Eagles Junior Football Team – all criteria met. Require funding for training equipment for new young teams. £386 agreed.

11. Active Stockport Sport Alliance:

Minutes of meeting to be circulated – Action BH.

12. Stockport Partnership Forum:

JS reported on his attendance at the meeting to discuss the potential effects of the 2012 Olympics on Stockport community and businesses.

It was reported that an application had been made for the Olympic torch to pass through the borough.

13. Sport Stockport Chair:

A discussion was held on the attributes required and the duties involved for the post of Chair of Sport Stockport. It was agreed that a draft of the ‘job description’ would be circulated by ID prior to publication.

14. Any other business:

A question was raised concerning the future of the Dialstone Centre. It was stated that SMBC is currently considering what should be done with a number of leisure centres particularly what it will cost to bring them up to standard. A Leisure Review is underway and a consultation exercise is being carried out. All 16 facilities are under review. JS to obtain a copy of the consultation document.

RL reported that the Trampoline Club are in need of a new venue because the ceiling at the present location is too low. As a result members are leaving to attend other clubs.

The junior bowling competition at Alexandra Park (sponsored by Sport Stockport) was attended by BW who presented the prizes.

15. Date of next meeting:

The next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday 20th September at Hazel Grove Bowling and Tennis Club commencing at 7.30 p.m. The only item on the Agenda would be the Awards Dinner.

The meeting closed at 10.00 p.m.
