Minutes of the General Purposes Sub Committee Meeting held at

Hazel Grove Bowling and Tennis Club

Tuesday 14th September 2010

3. Minutes:

The Minutes of the General Purposes Sub Committee meeting held on Tuesday 29th June 2010 were agreed.

4. Matters Arising:

ID reported that the proposed Cricket Level 2 coaching course has been rescheduled as a level 1 course to be run during January 2011 at Hillcrest Grammar School on four consecutive Thursdays.

It was agreed that the monthly meetings of Sport Stockport would be held on the second Wednesday of each month at Hazel Grove Bowling & Tennis Club commencing at 7:30p.m.

5. Website:

CW has been in touch with Graeme Draper but the proposed amendments to the website have not yet been finalised.

There are currently 115 clubs registered on the website. Present data indicates that there are 47 clubs registered with Sport Stockport with 41 working towards Clubmark status.

ID reported that some email addresses on the website are not valid.

6. Sport Stockport Objectives:

ID gave an update on the coaching courses being set up by the Sports Trust. Details are listed on the website.

A level 2 basketball course will be starting in Reddish during the following week

Seven applications have been received for Club Development Fund awards. It was noted that 30 grants are available for the year.

Of the 7 applications received 5 Clubs were awarded funding. 2 Clubs did not meet the award criteria and have been advised of the reasons for not being considered at this stage.

7. Stockport Sports Trust - Outcome 6:

A working group has been set up and a preliminary meeting held to discuss the terms of reference. The next meeting is scheduled for 21st September to which BW volunteered to attend due to the absence of JS on holiday

8. Active Stockport Alliance:

No report due to BH being unable to attend the last meeting

9. Annual Dinner:

All ticket money received apart from one private individual. JS to follow up.

10. Any Other Business:

ID raised the possibility of holding a Club Development Conference in the New Year with the venue of Priestnall. Agreed as a good idea.

ID raised the question of the possibility of Sport Stockport accessing funding by looking at local businesses to sponsor events. There is a need to investigate options. ID to discuss with Laura.

IB raised a query regarding a reported school funding competition of £15.5M sponsored by the Government. Apparently there is a consultation paper out at present which can be accessed on the Sport England website. It was queried whether this funding may be a diversion from other sources.

DS asked about the proposed closure of 2 sports centres - Peel Moat and Avondale. It was stated that a new centre is to be built in Reddish and both sports centres are very old and are expensive to maintain.

JS reported on the Bowls Festival held at Alexandra Park at which Sport Stockport sponsors the Junior Competition. BH presented the trophies to the winner and runner up. It was queried why the new banners were not on display. It was agreed that in future banners should be used at such events. They are currently with IB for safe keeping.

11. Next Meeting:

The next meeting will be Wednesday 13th October at Hazel Grove Bowling & Tennis Club commencing at 7.30 p.m.
